Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital

Networking Challenge

Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital is a very active hospital with a large Ethernet network. Their network frequently experienced delays and congestion. Future plans included connecting several buildings to the network. Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital needed a solution that would provide excellent performance today, with the ability to handle future growth without performance compromises.

Surazal’s Solution

Surazal designed a network based on the Lucent Cajun P550 Switch.
The Lucent P550 replaced the shared fast Ethernet hubs in the network backbone. The switch also had the flexibility to connect remote buildings with 100 mb/sec fiber optic links. The performance gains were noticed immediately, and the Lucent P550’s built in redundancy made it a reliable solution. For Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital, this Surazal solution was just what the doctor ordered.

Merant

Networking Challenge

Merant is a rapidly growing Software Development Firm that needed to expand into a second building approximately 500 yards from its current location. Once the decision was made to use the space in the second building, the challenge was determining how to connect the buildings with higher speed and lower cost.

Surazal’s Solution

Surazal designed an outdoor point-to-point solution based on wireless networking technology. The Wireless solution provided Merant with speeds greater than a T1, yet no recurring monthly costs were added. Lucent’s Wavelan products are rugged and reliable. Merant’s wireless network has withstood Hurricane Floyd, numerous thunderstorms, and 14+ inches of snow. For Merant, this solution provided great wireless networking with “no strings attached.”
